“Give us more time to relocate to Adjen Kotoku” – Agbogbloshie onion sellers beg Minister
The onion sellers at Abogbloshie in Accra are earnestly pleading o the government to give them more time to adequately prepare for their relocation to Adjen Kotoku.
Hon. Henry Quartet, the Greater Accra Regional Minister on Thursday, May 20, 2021 issued a seven week ultimatum to the onion traders in Agbogblosgie – Accra to relocate to Adjen Kotoku.
The traders were given a deadline which is on July 1, 2021 to be last day or the relocation. But as the date for the dead line draws closer they have come iut to plead for an extra time in other to be able to prepare for the relocation.
According to the market women, they are still on the preparation process for the relocation and so they plead on the government to give thme an extra time.
Speaking to the media, the leader of the traders said it is unfair for the Minister to give them a short period period of time to relocate.
“We plead with the the Government to give us an extra time to prepare very well for the relocation. We are not hesitating to relocate… No. We just need enough time to prepare for the relocation” – A trader said.
Other traders said “1st July is a few days away and we will not be ready by then. We are pleading on the Minister to give us some time.
The onion traders have been trading in the market at Agbogbloshie for the past 30years now. Due to the long years of trading st that particular place, the place has become crowded, dirt, and needs renovation.
Therefore, a new market has been built at Adjen Kotoku over ten years ago for this traders to relocate and make themselves comfortable whiles they trade.
