Takoradi woman confessed in the presence of her mother and other witnesses – ACP Kwesi Ofori.
ACP Kwesi Ofori, Director-General of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Department, said that the 28-year-old Takoradi woman Josephine Panyin Mensah, who was found a few days after her reported disappearance, admitted to lying in front of her mother and other witnesses.
ACP Kwesi Ofori said that although she admitted that she was not kidnapped and not pregnant, she will still be prosecuted because her actions have thrown the entire country, States, institutions and media houses into chaos, so the police will continue to investigate and prosecute her.
She is currently in police custody. Nothing can stop the police from going to court. Yesterday, she was warned that she even confessed the crime in the presence of her mother, family relations and independent witnesses.
On Saturday, September 25, 2021 ACP Kwasi Ofori said on Newsfile that: “Of course, we will go to court, judging from the damage caused by the chaos on the front line of the family, the entire country, and the media.”
An early official complaint filed by Panyin Mensah’s husband at the police station on Friday, September 17, indicated that she was seriously pregnant and kidnapped.
But after being discovered in Tolanu on the outskirts of Axim, five days later, she was not pregnant for nine months. This exacerbated concerns about the degeneration of her kidnappers accused in the western region.
The Ghana Police Department announced that Panyin Mensah had requested not to be prosecuted after admitting that she was not pregnant or kidnapped.
The police said in a statement on Friday, September 24: “The 28-year-old suspect Josephine Panyin Mensah confessed to the police during further investigation and stated that she was neither pregnant nor kidnapped. More details will be updated to the public as time goes on.
