The Ghana National Rent Control Department is urging all tenants in Ghana to boldly report all landlords who charge more than 6 months rent fee.
According to the department, charging more than 6 months rent fee is against the law and every landlord who does that from hence forth must be reported to authorities.
As monitored by elohaionline.com, the Public Relations Officer for the Rent Control Department, Emmanuel Hovey Kporsu in an interview on Metro TV said the department is unable to monitor all landlords and so tenants must be bold to report to them on any discomfort dealings with their landlords.
“I encourage every tenant to be bold and patriotic by reporting every landlord who will demand 1 year or 2 years rent fee before giving you accommodation” – He said.
He also used the platform to announce to the general public that, from January 2022, the Rent Control Department is going to strictly enforce payment of rent tax by landlords.
Mr Emmanuel Hovey Kposu, concluded that, all tenant must resist drastic increments of rent fees by landlords. He explained that a landlord can only increase rent fee he has done a renovation or anything costly to improve the rented accommodation.
